We became friends a couple of days when we ended up in a group together. We are two out of 5 Hispanics that are in the program. He is from San Jose, California (Do you know the way to San Jose?). Here I caught him talking to his girlfriend on the phone... but what I also like is what I also show here. Today was the first time I ever got on the subway above ground!!!! Isn't it cool... just like the movies:
We proceeded to take the subway to 76th street where we had to walk all the way (and I mean all the way) across the park to 72nd and 5th Avenue to the SummerStage Concert Series stage. We went to see the band Ozomatli (thanks Jennifer for informing me of this great band!). The concert was supposed to start at 3:00 (we arrived at 2:00 after walking 40 million miles). I thought they were going to be the first band, but then we found out through one of Louis's friends that Ozomatli would not be on stage until 5:00. This is what it looked like:
Everyone just takes their blankets and takes a little siesta while waiting for the groups. We decided that we didn't want to wait that long in the hot sun, so we decided to take a walk. I felt like a tour guide... we wallked all the way down 5th Avenue to see the priceystores (oh how I want a Tiffany blue box)... before we knew it we walked all the way down to 51st street (quite a few NEW YORK blocks). I showed him Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, the TIMELife building, Times Square, etc... we decided to take the subway back 'cause it was getting close to the time. He has a friend who lives here who took a blanket and was saving a spot for us on the right side of the stage. Well, the subway stopped short of the park, and we still had to walk some more. We had a curbside hot dog and finally made it to the park! There were tons of people there, but I will say the concert was hot!!!!! And I mean it was great... here are a few pics...

Here someone took out the Mexico flag, and we just danced and danced and danced and danced... below is a picture of the trombone player who I had a crush on. He was much cuter on stage!
After the concert I went with Louis and his friend, Monica (and 8 of her friends) to eat Korean barbeque on 35th street next to Herald Square... we had a great time... great food... great friends... great night. This is what I wanted from this trip to New York... I wanted to see the little sparks that make it special. And I think I found more than a couple today! HOMEWORK on the way ALL day tomorrow! Yeah for me!
Love ya,
Denise

Hey, they are a great band!!! Cool that you had a chance to check them out. Sorry I hadn't had a chance to check out the blog, but I like what I see. You are really into blogging - cool!!! I'm unemployed this week but we'll start and not look back next Monday, July 9th. We miss you but you don't know how happy and PROUD we are. It's good to see a Latina like you making waves and leaving a mark on NYC. I'll try to keep up with your blog as much as I can considering my unemployed status. I think Wednesday I'm grilling burgers for the girls and then we'll go check out fireworks and have drinks somewhere. Call me when you can - I have some questions about mail. Take care and have fun.
Fernando
