Basilica de Guadalupe

It has always been my dream to stand in front of this most important icon of my faith. I know when my grandmother came to Mexico City with my cousin Laura, I laughed at her stories of how she felt the Holy Spirit and almost fainted. Well, I didn´t faint, but I did feel an overwhelming sense of fufillment and strength. We traveled through the Basilica and all churches surrounding (including the original basilica), and it is amazing to see the effect of the Virgen on the people of Mexico and Mexican culture. Since Mexico was still playing for the World Cup at the time of our visit, it was funny to see that in the museum dedicated to the Virgen, there was a section devoted to the Mexican soccer team and the players devotion to the Virgen (you can see jerseys dedicated to the Virgen, letters of prayer for the team to win, etc...). When I knelt to pray, I did not want to get up. The strength of faith immobolized me during our visit, and I will always remember the feeling every time I see a picture of the Virgen de Guadalupe.

This cross was the cross used during daily mass at the original basilica. This cross was at the foot of the tilma worn by Juan Diego. When a bomb was set off in the basilica and everything around was destroyed, the tilma and its casing were untouched. This cross did not melt or destroy, but was bent at the foot of the Virgen. Miracles happen every day...
