National Palace: Mexico City

What can I say, but that standing in the same place as such a gifted artist as Diego Rivera is not only inspiring, not only breathtaking, but truly an honor. His work cannot be duplicated in a mere photograph, but I tried to capture a little of Maestro Rivera´s inspiration so that I could take a little home with me.

First you will see the National Palace pictured as you walk in the doors. In this partcular picture, you will see where the President of Mexico stands to greet the people during important events. He does not work in the palace here, but only comes to this area during special occasions such as el 16 de septiembre and cinco de mayo. You will notice the eagle and the serpent standing on top of this balcony.

Here is a picture of me standing in the courtyard before seeing the beautiful murals of this palace. And also pictured, you will find two examples of Diego Rivera´s mural.
The walls are lined with more than 14 murals, but depicted
here is the mural that lies upon the entrance of the grand staircase. This mural took 10 years to complete and is a splendind sight. You will see how Rivera depicts both the indigenous cultures and the Spanish inquisition (hence the origin of the dunce cap). I need to buy a book to really tell the story of the mural. I am in awe still...
